Art Exchange

admission free

6.00 – 7.30pm, in Art Exchange

Artist Faiza Butt will be joined by curator Melanie Kidd (New Art Exchange, Nottingham), to expand on ideas behind Faiza’s exhibition at Art Exchange.

Faiza Butt tells us, “Artists have a purpose in society. You do not make art to make anyone comfortable or to amuse people. Art is a language, a code through which to hope to make a difference”.  In Butt’s work, images drawn from the press and advertising combine with Indo-Persian miniature to create an effect that is both dream-like and hyper-real. This candy coloured world surprises us by addressing important socio-political subjects.  Butt cites growing up in the shifting politics of 1980s Pakistan, and later, the impact of 9/11 on the young Pakistan diaspora in Britain, as major influences on her work.

Please join us to expand on these and many other fascinating themes in Faiza Butt’s work.

Q&A will be followed by refreshments.

Admission free, all welcome.
