About the Artist
Valik’s semi-abstract paintings are connected to ideas of landscape as a psychological space. Painting without preliminary sketches, the working out of his artworks takes place directly on the canvas. Intuitive brushwork combine with translucent layers and rhythms, resulting in compositions where gestural traces coexist and evoke a spatial depth as observed in nature. To Valik, painting becomes a way of existence, as a simultaneous presence and absence.
