Join Dr Sarah Demelo and Gisselle Giron for a discussion on the history of the Essex’s University Art Collection.
The curators will examine how it was our staff and students that took founding Vice-Chancellor Albert Sloman’s vision for the arts and made it their own, as they helped to shape almost 60 years of collecting, from the beginnings of the University Art Collection and its British modernist works, to our internationally recognised Essex Collection of Art from Latin America.
Sarah and Gisselle will also talk about the research process behind the exhibition – particularly archival research in our Special Collections store and in Kettle Yard’s archive in Cambridge – as well as findings that make our Art Collections so unique.
All welcome!
