An interview with Richard Whitby that expands on the ideas behind his extraordinary film The Lost Ones.
Offering insights into the process of making this film, we find out that some of the most outlandish questioning of immigrants applying for residency in the UK are taken from the citizenship test, ‘Life in the UK’. Sometimes reality really is stranger than fiction.
Richard Whitby (b. Liverpool 1984, works London) makes videos and performances, and writes. He studied at Wimbledon College of Art and the Slade and took part in the LUX Associate Artists Programme in 2012/13. His exhibitions include Focal Point Gallery, Southend (2013) and the Bluecoat, Liverpool (2014) and has had residencies with CCA Glasgow and Seoul Museum of Art (2015). His book The Jump Room was published in 2018.
