New York-based artist David Horvitz will be at firstsite to talk about ‘Some Cut Flowers’, the commission he has created for Intimate Bureaucracies exhibition.
The artist has sent individual flowers in plastic water bottles from the USA to Art Exchange on a daily basis for the duration of the show. Customs regulations controlling the import and export of fresh cut flowers mean that some of the bottles should be confiscated. But this is Horvitz’s intention; the flowers are meant as a gift for the customs officials, not their ostensible destination. Nevertheless, something about the sending of a gift of flowers to curator Zanna Gilbert, seems to mean that most make it through.
