We take our inspiration from the 1962 model for the University of Essex made by architect Kenneth Capon in LEGO as a Christmas present for founding Vice-Chancellor Albert Sloman. In our current show ‘Brutal But Beautiful’, this sits alongside the Masterplan model of campus made a year later – and its fascinating to see how ideas for a new university evolved.
It all began with a few LEGO bricks – and the rest is history.
