5.00 – 7.00pm, Art Exchange
Join us for a discussion that explores the female body as artistic strategy.
Many consider the overt use of the female body to be reductive and problematic; but for some female artists, the enactment of the body in a direct way is a particularly useful tool. The tug-of-war that surrounds the depiction of the female figure – even amongst feminists, is complicated. These complexities and contradictions will be explored during this discussion which expands on issues raised by artists in (C)overt Corporeality, currently on show at Art Exchange.
Speakers include Dr Matt Lodder (Department of Art History), Dr Diana Bullen Presciutti (Department of Art History) and Dr Carlos Gigoux (Department of Sociology) from the University of Essex.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A and a drinks reception.
Free. All welcome.
