MA Curating students present their degree show Of Other Spaces: Gardens of Dreams.
For the philosopher Michel Foucault these are unique spaces, both real and intangible, that are not part of our daily world, that are other – heterotopias. One of these places is the garden: it is both an outdoor space we grow and thisĀ inner world within ourselves where we place our dreams, hopes, emotions and memories.
This exhibition explores how the images of these Other Spaces can take different forms. From poetic settings inhabited by nature to abstract dreamscapes where the subconscious takes over, the works present a diversity of perspectives of inner worlds. The show includes work by Jason Clark, Rebecca Gilpin, Abigail Lence, Jan Valik, Soon Young Lee and Huo Ye Zhang.
Through this exhibition, the students’ intend to encourage you to assess your own inner spaces. Embrace the intangible as well as the material, the inside as well as the outside. It is a place for liberating introspection and free-flowing evasion.
