Jimmy Cauty’s ADP Riot Tour
Once he burned a million quid, reached No 1 in the charts and made a postage stamp of the Queen wearing a gas mask. Now British culture terrorist James Cauty works quietly on his dioramas. ADP is his 40ft shipping container housing a vast post-apocalyptic landscape in miniature populated only by the police and media crews. Created in 1:87 scale, the diorama is viewed through peep-holes through which the audience is invited to view a vision of the near future set somewhere in Bedfordshire known as ‘Old Bedford’.
This miniature world is on its Riot Tour, stopping off at historical sites of protest, following the installation’s critically acclaimed appearance at Banksy’s Dismaland last summer. The University’s May ’68 riots make us a fitting venue.
