Tom Armstrong draws cartoons in a cold, wet farm building by the side of the A12.
He publishes regularly in the satirical magazine Private Eye and various independent zines.
For Precarious, Tom has been artist-in-residence at the University of Essex this autumn and winter, visiting once a week to hang out on campus’s squares, cafes and bars. Utilising his trademark wry humour he observed student life unfolding around him. As he tells us, “I skulked around the campus and did some drawings. Help yourself to a sheet of them if you’d like – they can be folded into a book, pinned to a wall, cut into postcards or rolled up and used to swat flies”.
Tom has recently completed a limited-edition book of cartoons entitled Robotic Therapy Animals. He also exhibits his work, including The Hay Games at Firstsite, Colchester (2016) and Urban Spaces at Benham Gallery, Essex (2022).
